College baseball will change radically in 2008 from tightened restrictions passed Thursday by the NCAA's board of directors. Starting Aug. 1, 2008, baseball players will be certified academically in the fall semester as opposed to the spring - a measure that could impact popular summer leagues. Currently, players use the fall semester to get well academically. Baseball's one-time transfer rule for immediate eligibility was eliminated. Players will have to sit out a year after transferring - as in football, men's and women's basketball and ice hockey. Labels: scholarship |
