Yesterday's article, "Foot race will raise funds for scholarship," should have stated the Dorothy Finnegan Scholarships total $1,500 to $1,800; each student does not receive that sum. Category winners of the May 28 Dorothy Finnegan 5K foot race receive medals, not gift certificates; the gift certificates are raffle prizes.
LEE — The fifth annual foot race held in memory of former Lee teacher Dorothy Finnegan, an event that funds a high school scholarship in her name, will be held May 28.
Dorothy Finnegan taught at Lee Elementary School for 25 years, establishing herself as a paramount figure in the school system.
The money raised from the event supports the Dorothy Finnegan Scholarship, which is given annually to qualified graduating seniors from Lee High School who plan to attend a two- or four-year college and major in education. The students are chosen based on their transcript, class rank, extracurricular activities and an essay.
Lauren Finnegan, whose husband, Tom, is the grandson of Dorothy Finnegan, said that, in years past, every student who applied received a scholarship. Scholarships range from $1,500 to $1,800.Labels: student loans, study abroad |
