Margaret Nixon, representing District 17 of the North Carolina Nurses Association, presented a check to Halifax Community College President Dr. Ervin Griffin Tuesday.
The check was from funds raised during the annual Light-A-Candle fund-raising event held Friday, May 11, at the Jo Story Senior Center, and will be used to fund a second scholarship for the school of nursing at HCC.
Nixon explained the original idea behind the Light-A-Candle event was to raise funds in order to establish a scholarship for nursing students at HCC. After the first scholarship was successfully created, Nixon immediately began working on funding a second scholarship, and the $1,000 check she presented Tuesday will go toward it.
Bonita Terry-Malone, director of institutional advancement for HCC, said Nixon and the District 17 NCNA have been extremely helpful to the HCC School of Nursing.
“Margaret is a huge supporter for the school,” she said.
Helping Nixon make the presentation was Mary Davis, RN, MSN, CNA, BC, from Halifax Regional Medical Center's human resources department, who is also president-elect of NCNA, district 17. Helping Dr. Griffin accept the check was department head of nursing, Kelly Harvey, RN.Labels: financial aid, free education, high school, scholarship, study abroad |
