CityBus routes offer students easy way to get around campu |
Getting around campus can be frustrating, if not confusing. There are many different modes of transportation that can be utilized to students' advantage.
n Walk: One of the two most preferred modes of transportation and, since Purdue is slowly becoming a more pedestrian-friendly campus, getting across campus by walking will be easier.
n Bike: The second of the two most preferred modes of transportation is biking, which can get students around campus faster than walking. It can be difficult, however. Although there are bike lanes in some places around campus, bikers will find that there will most likely be a pedestrian in the lane. Bikers have to be aware of their surroundings because mixing bikers and walkers can become quite dangerous.
n Skate boards, rollerblades, etc.: These are not as common as bikes, but still seen around campus.
n Car: Having a car on campus can be frustrating. Most newcomers can only purchase "C" parking passes and that is only if you live 1.5 miles away from campus. "C" parking can also be difficult because at certain times during the day the "C" lots closest to campus will be full. Some students find themselves having to park far away. However, if students give themselves plenty of time before class and find themselves having to park far away from their campus destination, they can always take the bus.
n CityBus: CityBus provides free bus rides to Purdue students. Marty Sennett, general manager for CityBus, said there are many benefits to riding the bus as opposed to walking or driving.
"If you live off campus your total travel time is reduced. You don't have to drive around looking for a parking space and the bus drops you off in front of your building," said Sennett. "If you live in residence halls, during inclement weather, the bus is a safe way to get to classes."
