Dorm lofts make extra room for students' belongings |
New students pack their cars with TV's, stereos, refrigerators and everything else they can't live without. Upon moving into the residence halls, new students find that because they are sharing a room, one major concern is space.
One way to create more space in residence hall rooms is by lofting your bed. To loft beds, residents must follow university guidelines. Barbara Frazee, operations director of university residences said that students should consider lofts.
"It is not necessary but with the amount of belongings that students are bringing, it will give students opportunities to give space for TV, stereo equipment and video game equipment."
Day on Campus is a good time to start considering your living arrangements, Frazee said.
"There are displays of rooms set up in each hall. One room will be set up how you would have them in August and another room you will find with lofted beds."
The first step in considering lofts in your room is consulting your roommate.
Next, you need to find out what lofts are available for using depending on what residence hall you will be living in.
Renting a loft from a University residence is available in certain residence halls. Built specifically for that hall, these lofts are made of wood and available to be rented for $55 a year. These lofts can be pre-ordered and in your room on the day you arrive. Loft renting forms will also be available to be filled out during Day on Campus. A downloadable order form can be found at www.housing.purdue.edu.
University residences approve a loft from bedloft.com that are available in most residence halls. These metal lofts can be pre-ordered and waiting for you in your room. The deadline for free in-room delivery is Aug. 1 and they are available for $95. For more information, visit www.Bedloft.com.
If you choose to purchase a loft from an outside vendor or build one yourself, please make sure they fit within the University guidelines. For a list of guidelines, visit www.housing.purdue.edu.
