It was a coincidence in December 2004 when two Rockhurst High School classmates died in car accidents two days apart while both were home on winter break from college.

But now it is no coincidence that their names appear together in the “Following in Sam’s and Chris’ Footsteps” fundraiser planned for Saturday in Lee’s Summit.

The families of both young men — Chris Camarena, who died Dec. 17, 2004, and Sam Woodell, who died Dec. 19, 2004 — have worked together to plan the 5K run/walk. Proceeds will support Rockhurst High School scholarships in each young man’s name.
