The second annual Chris Sifford Day at the Ballpark is scheduled for June 2 at Hammons Field.
The event will raise scholarship funds to honor the memory of Chris Sifford, a former Springfield News-Leader journalist who was working as an aide to Gov. Mel Carnahan when they, along with the governor's son, were killed in a 2000 plane crash.
A 5K and 2.5K Walk/Run begins at 8:30 a.m. at Hammons Field. Friends, family, former associates, supporters and the public are encouraged to also attend the Springfield Cardinals game at 6:10 p.m. against the Corpus Christi Hooks, which will include a tribute to Sifford.
Registration fee for the Walk/Run is $15 in advance and $20 on race day. Participants will receive a T-shirt as part of the entry fee.
Entry forms and more information are available online at www.eteamz.active.com/ChrisSiffordMemorial and at Ozark Mountain Ridge Runner's Web site at www.omrr.org.
Information is also available at Ridge Runner Sports, 3057 S. Fremont Ave.
All proceeds from Sifford Day at the ballpark event will go to the scholarship fund at Missouri State University for students in the communications and journalism departments.Labels: financial aid, high school, scholarship, study abroad |
