Pakistan : Apparel sector in dire need of Govt financial aid
Recently, leaders of garment organizations including Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA), Hosiery Manufacturers Association (PHMA), Sweater Exporters Association and Cotton Fashion Apparel held a joint press conference in Karachi to express their views.

They proposed that the apparel sector be provided the status of export processing unit, which has access to tax incentives, gas subsidies and other such facilities.

They pleaded that garment sector was in dire need of the Government’s support. They said that on the other hand fertilizer companies, which made significant profits, were enjoying weighty subsidies.

Delegates said that Pakistan industry had been pushed further away from the competition as energy cost had gone up. They said every week, 2-3 companies were forced to shut down, since they could not cope with the competitive pressures.
