School finance info available online |
PORTLAND -- The nonprofit organization Chalkboard Project has created a Web site, www.openbooksproject.org, where citizens can see how local school districts spend their money, and compare spending with similar districts and the state average.
The site tracks spending at Oregon's 198 school districts in five categories: teaching and student resources; principal's office; buses, buildings and food; business services and technology; and central administration. Information is based on the 2004-05 school year and has been audited for accuracy by the Oregon Department of Education.
