Over 1100 children of Marri tribe are getting free quality education in various schools under "Chamalang Education Programme (Roshni Ka Safar Project)"in Kohlu district, besides 135 students are getting education in Army public schools in different parts of the country. This was stated by Chief of Staff (COS) 12 Corps Headquarters, Major General Nasir Khan Janjoa on behalf of the Corps Commander here at a ceremony held for enrolment of 500 new students under Chamalang Educational Programme Funds and inauguration ceremony of construction of labourer residential colony and hospital in Chamalang.
The COS said that Rs 15 million would be spent on educational expenses of these students from Chamalang educational funds per annum. The students belong to Bijarani, Loharani and Gazini sub-clans of Marri tribe who have been enrolled from all three tehsils of the district. The students have been granted two free uniforms, books, note books, besides Rs500 monthly scholarship aimed at motivating them for getting education.
A total of 250 students have also been selected from Loralai district for sending them to different educational institutions for getting quality education in various parts of the country.
He said that compensation would soon be granted to the heirs of the deceased belonging to Luni and Marri tribes who had been killed during the last few decades in tribal enmity in Chamalang. The compensation would strengthen the cordial relations between the two tribes which would be granted under Chamalang Funds.
"Educated jawans of the Marri force are being inducted in newly raised Balochistan Constabulary and Police and fresh recruitment against their vacant posts would be made from Marri tribe. Marri Force would be regularized on the basis of its outstanding performance. Rs7.8 million are being spent on Marri Force per annum from Chamalang funds," he explained. He said that a park will be set up in Kohlu aimed at providing recreational facilities to the people. He also announced provision of free medicines amounting to Rs0.3 million for Kohlu District Hospital.
He said that establishment of telephone exchange has been approved for Chamalang. Work on Labourer Residential Colony and Mekhtar-Chamalang road will soon be started at a cost of over one billion rupees.
He expressed the hope that production of coal will soon be increased from 1000 to 6000 tons per day.
The people of the area will soon get all basic amenities including water supply, schools, electricity, roads and other facilities.
Speaking on the occasions, GOC 41 Division Major General Muhammad Farooq gave a briefing about the tribal enmity between Luni and Marri tribes during the past few decades to the present day of their cordial relationships.
He said that branches of National Banks would soon be opened in Chamalang and Mekhtar. The bank management has already appointed local people as its cashier and other staff.
He said that new schools will be established in Chamalang, Kohlu and other areas to provide quality education to the people of the area.
Later, both the Major Generals inaugurated the construction of Labourer Residential Colony, Hospital and Residences for doctors and paramedic staff on behalf of the Corps Commander.
Senator Muhabbat Khan Marri, District Nazim Kohlu Gul Muhammad Marri, District Naib Nazim Nasibullah Marri and tribal elders also spoke on the occasions and highlighted the significance of education and positive social change taking place in the area after operation of the coal reserves.
