Bowman awarded $300 scholarship |
A Jennings County High School senior received a $300 scholarship during the 66th annual Hayden Homecoming.
Andrew Bowman, son of Roger and Lisa Capes Bowman and former Hayden Elementary student, was awarded the 2006 Michael Euler award at the June 25 event at the Hayden Museum’s Pavilion; 81 attended.
Euler was the last Spencer Township veteran to lose his life while serving his country, according to a release.
Former Hayden High School teacher Aubrey Bessenger addressed attendees, recalling his experiences teaching at the school and preaching at Hayden Baptist Church.
Members of anniversary classes of 1946 and 1956 also spoke briefly at the event.
Deceased Hayden alumni and community members were honored with a moment of silence.
Alumni officers announced that next year’s homecoming meeting will be June 24.
