High school graduates starting with the Class of 2007 won't get a $1,000 college scholarship to attend out-of-state schools under legislation signed by Governor Granholm.
The move is expected to save the state about 3.5 million dollars and could affect more than 3,500 students. Students qualify for the Merit Award by scoring well on Michigan Educational Assessment Program tests.
The Merit Award program will continue giving up to $3,000 to high school students who attend in-state colleges.
