As the two-day summit in the northern German resort winds down today, G8 leaders will also meet with leaders of the world's five main emerging economies -- China, India, Brazil, Mexico, and South Africa -- who want a greater say in the global decision-making process.
Meanwhile, U.S. President George W. Bush is not feeling well and has had to skip a morning working session. French President Nicolas Sarkozy held hourlong talks with Bush this morning and said afterward that Bush would rejoin the working meeting as soon as he can.
White House counsellor Dan Bartlett said Bush had a stomach ailment which he described as "not serious".
On June 7, G8 leaders agreed to seek "substantial" cuts in greenhouse-gas emissions in an effort to tackle global warming. No mandatory targets for emissions cuts were set.
On the sidelines of the summit in Heiligendamm, Bush met with Russian President Vladimir Putin amid a dispute between the two countries over U.S. plans to build an missile-defense system in Europe.
