The UW System Board of Regents could approve new rules today that would eliminate ties between private lenders and campus financial aid officials.
Among other things, the rules would bar campuses from accepting payments from companies offering student loans. They would also prohibit UW employees from receiving compensation for serving on company advisory boards.
A regents' committee signed off on them yesterday.
UW System President Kevin Reilly says the goal of the policy is to preserve trust in the university and show the public the system has quickly addressed concerns that have arisen nationwide.
Many universities are reviewing their policies amid a wide-ranging investigation by New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo that has uncovered cozy relationships between universities and lenders.
Cuomo has found some lenders paid colleges and gave administrators gifts to steer borrowers their way.
The regents are meeting at UW Milwaukee.Labels: academy awards, career training, education online, financial aid, free college, free education, scholarship, student loans, study abroad |
